Today i am trying to ask "HG" a simple question and will use an analogy to represent the conversation below.
Me: Had your lunch?
Expected answers, Yes, No, or I had XXX for lunch.
HG: I don't eat chicken rice for lunch.
I was thinking, does HG understand what was the question and what HG was answering?

Well all I can say is this, "No"
Why? Assuming that the food available for lunch was chicken and rice.
